Rabbit Clan Hare

Hare Clan
Masters of Subtly, Secrets and the Dark Arts

Please PM/AIM me (kitsune) or the clan leader of the rabbit if you wish to join! This goes double for those who wish to use Blood/Moon/Shadow Magic.

Squished between the fox clan and bear clan, by the southern border near modern day laos, lies the rabbit clan and its founder Osahi. She was the youngest of the kami, but her clan stays vigilant and ever alert. She is also the clan that is closest to Tsukiyomi. It should come to no surprise then that this has always been the region of the empire that has held the temple of Tsukiyomi, whose shugenjas venerate the dead and practice the only form of blood magic not yet considered impure. There shugenja and even samurai are said to glow with a holy white light on some nights...and a red dark light on others. They are known to be quite fickle, but still an upright clan. Osahi, always saddened by the death of Uke Mochi, holds the position of Ko, reverence for the dead. Among their ranks are the most shamans in the empire.

Creepy stuff happens in this clan. It is said this clan is furthest from the imperial eyes, both physically and politically, and it is how they prefer it.

Families of the Rabit

Anjuu - “Living Peaceably

The Anjuu Clan are a sect within the Rabbit Clan that consist primarily of Shaman, though there are few that dabble within the realms of Alchemy, Shugenja, and Wu-Jen (along with their retainers, Yojinbo, and assassins of Samurai, Monks, Souhei, and Ninja). The Anjuu have devoted their lives to the scientific research and development of the workings of the soul. Altogether they seek to strengthen the spirit, increase its longevity, and find the common bond which unites our similarities in death and birth.

Within the Rabbit Clan are Anjuu fulfilling almost all roles of life- nobility, artisan, merchant, warrior, and their numbers are growing due to their research in this lucrative field of study, all funding the projects their Shaman brethren commit. Their findings are kept secret from the public for the most part, and only the few of the highest echelon actually know the findings of these developments. The hierarchy is created through four aspects, each led by a council of nine leaders and are known as the 36 Chambers:
The True Anjuu: Direct ancestors to the Clan and contain the most knowledge
Led by Michihito, Keeichi, Kauyuki, Ishibari, Taiho, Kondo, Yui, Hiroharu, and Tateishi Anjuu

The Noble Anjuu: Those who provide the largest portion of wealth and highest political influence
Led by Shiraha, Ichiro, Tadashi, Suukou, Watanabe, Fujimoto, Takata, Nakanishi, and Munechika Anjuu

The Anjuu Army: The warriors of the Rabbit Clan's military, usually the strongest Shaman
Led by Sakate, Tadakatsu, Hamamoto, Arakawa, Ren, Endo, Omori, Akihiro, and Koukichi Anjuu

The Anjuu Clergy: The devout followers of Tsukiyomi, the well rounded of the four
Led by Hisao, Ikeda, Ohkubo, Osamu, Toukai, Koike, Sekine, Sakurai, and Norio Anjuu

Their city, Enjaku (“Nirvana”), lays secluded, behind the mountain range of Taisen, the dense jungles of Kita-ku, and along the northwestern coast of Masayuki. Trade routes are open through select portions of the mountain trails and forest, and their ports are open to commerce within the Rabbit Clan's jurisdiction.

Tsukiai - "Friendship"

The Tsukiai are composed of three separate groups of classes (although there are exceptions to every rule). This group is known formally as those who support the main Anjuu family of the Rabbit clan, the founder of the family (Tsukiai) being the Yojimbo of Anjuu herself.

It was said that Anjuu was the first mortal to discover a method of harnessing the power of the shadows themselves. However, over time even the great Anjuu's soul was tainted without the aid of her Yojimbo. Anjuu fell to darkness, and it was Tsukiai who had to kill her own charge, committing seppuku (or so is most commonly believed), soon after.

It was after this time that the yojimbo of the Tsukiai learned secret arts that let them protect their charge's souls (as well as their bodies) from the corruption of the very arts they study.

This clan is unique in that both families have members of every class. However, it should be noted that where the Anjuu have more shamans than any other single class, the Tsukiai have more Ninja (although this is not technically known by any outsiders). Where the members of the Anjuu are those who learn about the dark arts, it is the Tsukiai's duty to defend against them when things go awry, using those very same dark arts. The second most common class are the Sohei, protectors of the shrines of a god unknown to all outsiders of the clans (to such an extent that even the fact this family has a large number of shrines to correspond with the large number of sohei they have is a fact only discussed in hushed whispers).

The leaders of this family are known as the Council of 10--a group of figures whose true identities are unknown to all, including one another. The 11th vote, if needed, goes to the Daimyo of the family (the theoretical "leader"), who is Tsukiai Yawarakasa, a powerful Sohei/Samurai of an unknown shrine.

Benefits and Alternative Spellcasting:

The rabbit clan is unique in that it has 3 types of spellcasting no other clan even remotely knows of. Tales of these schools of spell-craft are spoken of only in hushed whispers, and even the top clan officials of the Rabbit will deny their existence (and not because they wish to protect their clan secrets; most Rabbit members don't even know of these arts!), while others will only give a feint smile and walk away...

In the spirit of these three methods of spellcasting, the systems will not be posted in the open. All Rabbit Clan PCs will have access to the knowledge of these three systems (as well as any ronin who wish to take "Know the School"). However, there are special circumstances (almost like flaws) that one takes when joining these schools that even over-ride the difficulties of joining the clan in the first place.

The Rabbit Clan's abilities will be posted after the first or second major plot arc, depending on what occurs in these plots. The Rabbit Clan's benefits mostly revolve around lies and deceit. Subterfuge, cunning and back-stabbing are their specialties...yet only the shrewdest in the empire (currently) know of the Rabbit Clan's true nature (most thrown by the open and unfortunately naive nature of the leading Kami of the Rabbit).

For reference, as of right now the Rabbit clan have 1 Ninja-related benefit, the 3 spellcasting benefits, and 1 courtier ability.
