Clan Of The Dragonflies
"The stronghold of magic and elements..."
Members of the Dragonfly Clan are commonly known as "The Spellcasters" for their specialization in the magical arts and elemental control. Located in the mountainous north of the empire, this clan is famous for developing and holding some of the strongest shugenja in the entire empire. The lifelong goal of most shugenja is to become one with the elements, particularly the ones they specialize in, for it brings them closer to the kami, their source of spiritual power. The ways of the shugenja are mainly controlled by the kami of chi (wisdom), thus influencing the motives and goals of the spellcasters, allowing them to become the best at their craft - the art of spell casting.

However, the Dragonfly Clan is not made up of shugenja alone. Groups of every type are present within this clan, although they represent more of a minority in this community. Rumour has it that amongst these groups is a band of samurai yojimbo who swear their all to the Dragonfly shugenja... and that this clan hides some of the most devastating, well-hidden spells in the entire empire...

Even though this clan may be isolated and secluded from the outside world, resulting in the mysterious nature of this community; they still remain a part of Saiken's original history...
[ Families & Classes ]

[ Major Families ][ Shimizu ]
Courtiers (Traders) ~ Earth Shugenja Specialists
The Shimizu started off as a tiny family back during the early prosperous years of the Dragonfly, immigrating from the Dragon Clan into this one, building up their status through economic means - trading and business.

[ Minami ]
Courtiers (Nobles) ~ Water Shugenja Specialists

[ Fujiwara ]
Samurai ~ Air Shugenja Specialists

[ Ming ]
Alchemists ~ Fire Shugenja Specialists

[ Jung ]
Scholars ~ Elemental Specialists

[ Minor Families ]

[ Shiba ]
Bushi
Lasting through the variable known only as time, this family and school has lived on, remaining as one of Saiken's most well known and prominent bushi schools. Though perhaps the Shiba clan has shrunk in size and is no longer one of the more dominant clans of the Dragonfly, they still produce exceptionally talented bushi.

[ Sakurazaki ]
Ninja (Spies) ~ "Rumoured Void Shugenja Specialists"
This family made its fame through its talent at the art of the shugenja, being elemental specialists like the Jung family itself. Though perhaps they were not entirely scholars like the Jung family, the Sakurazaki took prominent interest in Ishiken-do, and so were rumoured to be Void elemental specialists. Respected, as the Void element is respected for its unpredictable nature, this family was considered as the strongest shugenja family for a notable period of time, before their decline a decade ago. Also, underneath their outer shugenja appearance, the Sakurazaki clan also consisted of shinobi, who served their country and clan through the means of having excellent information networks and spying. This "side" of the Sakurazaki family is known by few, trustworthy loyalists of the Dragonfly Clan.

[ Kiyoshi ]
Shaman Specialists
In order to fight evil, one has to become evil himself
The Kiyoshi family or as they call themselves 'The Extinguishers of Evil' are a group of Shaman wanderers who decided to join forces in order to better eradicate evil. All their members have at least one thing in common, they specialize themselves in the dark arts so that they can battle evil. As this organization is brand new, it's one of the less populated in the entire Dragonfly Clan. Although its newness, it's already pretty known in negative manner throughout the Clan due to their appearance which are very dark, secretive and the fact that strange events occur upon their arrive. Although they are completely loyal to the Dragonfly Clan, some citizens state that the Kiyoshi family are a bunch of demons and evil creatures themselves especially the Shinsei family is very aggressive towards the Kiyoshi Family. Due to its rivalship with the Shinsei family, none of its members can visit any holy place in Dragonfly Clan. As an individual decides to join the Kiyoshi family, he has to abandon his original name and from that moment on be known by the family given nickname.

[ Shinsei ]
Sohei ~ Wu-Jen Specialists
If one wants to clean this world, he has to clean himself first
The Shinsei family is one of the oldest in the Dragonfly Clan. As the members see it as a duty to protect and maintain peace, they specialize themselves in the divine white arts. Due to this specialization, a fairly new rival showed up in the Dragonfly Clan: the Kiyoshi family. Because of the dark oriented path the Kiyoshi family has chosen, the Shensei family are trying to sabotage them by also killing demons but with the power of good instead of evil. By entering this family, one has to give up all his wealth to charity and live in a good way such as protecting the weak and the holy buildings throughout the Dragonfly Clan.
Members of the Dragonfly Clan, to incorporate your families into this family chart, please contact me and describe your family, class, whether it is major or minor, and give a brief history of it like the ones above. Please note that there will be limited spacing for major clans.

[ Elemental Specialization ]
This section is for the shugenja of the Dragonfly Clan, who specialize in the Japanese elements and the art of spell casting by focusing on the power of the kami.

"One does not choose to become a shugenja, nor does a shugenja wield magic. The shugenja is merely the tool; it is the kami who choose when and where to use him."

[ Void ]

~ Ishiken-do ~
Please Note: This is a hidden school or "art" in the Dragonfly Clan. Despite the fact that Void elementalists are only found in this clan, the number of Void elementalists are considerably rare.
Unique only to the Dragonfly Clan, members of the Ishiken-do are specialists of the Void element - the element of negation. Not just any shugenja can cast even the most basic Void spells, for this requires special training as well as innate ability. Students of the Void know that all four elements (air, water, fire, and air) are held together by the intangible Void, which exists outside of and around the other four elements, defining them in its absence. The Ishiken are the students of this imperceptible Void element, which is by far the most powerful of the elements, as well as the most difficult to master. The benefit of this ability is that none of the other elements are barred, however, students of the Ishiken must maintain the other four elements as well, rather than the basic three elemental specialization of students who study the other elemental groups.

[ Elemental Benefits ]
This section is for members of the Dragonfly Clan who specialize in one of the five elements specified above. Shugenja from this clan may only take the benefits of the elements they specialize in.

Points: +5

Effect: You have no barred element (normally another +4 benefit). Furthermore, you can put more than 1 point into the Void control. This allows you to utilize Void in any given area. Using Void is different from using other elements, in that it allows you to "negate" the use and almost existence of elements up to the amount of void used. So if another shugenja tries to use 3 fire to create a fireball, an Ishiken-do can counter by using 3 Void to negate the fireball, 2 Void to make the fireball a 1 element spell, or 1 void to break up the fireball into a 2 element spell. At the same time, an Ishiken can concentrate on any given item, like any shugenja with elemental sense powers, and determine how much of each element is in the item. Using Void, the Ishiken can unravel the existence of the item in question. At higher levels (given enough control), an Ishiken could also theoretically unravel living beings... Void is more abundant than most elements in most areas, since only so few people can use it.
